TikTok Made Me Buy It - Beauty Edition

After months of resistance, it finally happened.

I made my way to the App store and downloaded TikTok to see what all the fuss was about. It sounds dramatic, but I was convinced the platform was for teenagers dancing to trendy songs, and my late twenty-something self shouldn't be there.

I was wrong. Since taking the plunge, I've discovered recipes, relatable stories, book recommendation, and more while scrolling well into the evening. The most profound impact TikTok has had is on my spending habits. The cool things people share have made Target and I more aquatinted than ever. That brings me here, sharing things TikTok made be buy. Let's get into it!

Quick note: Not everything listed here is from Target , but I will continue to blame TikTok for my visitsšŸ˜Š

Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Exagger-Eyes Liner Duo

My makeup routine has changed quite a bit through the years. As a preteen, I slapped on hot pink eyeshadow with black eyeliner and poorly matched foundation and thought that was look. Later on, my thing was adding pearl eyeshadow to the inner corner of my eyes with liner and mascara. I still didn't get the foundation thing right, but overall it was kinda cute. Fast-forward to today, and I'm down to foundation (it matches, I think), a little concealer, and mascara. When I saw a TikTok video for the exagger eyes liner duo, I remembered my pearl eyeshadow days and wanted to channel that again.

I headed to Charlotte Tilbury's site, added it to my cart, and resisted the urge to browse so I could immediately check out. Here's my verdict (insert dramatic drum roll). It's just ok. I'm not blown away by the product and I'm certain there are affordable dupes out there. The color pay off is decent, although I think using an eyeshadow brush with a setting spray provides a better glow. Save your money with this one.

Tree Hut Shea Sugar Scrub

I gotta say, I was hesitant to purchase the Tree Hut Shea Sugar Scrub. It seemed like a product you would grab because of the aesthetic, not because it works. While on my weekly Target run, I spotted it and decided to give a try because, why not? The smell is nice, the consistency isn't harsh, and a little goes a long way. Iā€™ve finished my first tub and purchased a second so I guess one could confidently say, Iā€™m hooked. Is this a holy grail product? No, but the price is hard to beat and itā€™s the perfect scrub for a spa day at home. This product doesn't stay on the shelves long, so if you're on the fence, go ahead and buy it when you see it.

Loreal Paris Infallible 24h Fresh Wear Foundation

The impact of TikTok is truly amazing. It took weeks of searching up and down makeup aisles before I got my hands on this product, and Iā€™m certain itā€™s due to consumers raving about it on the app. When I finally found it at CVS, I was ecstatic. Iā€™ve been using it for about a week and all things considered, Iā€™m content. It provides medium coverage so imperfections are still somewhat visible (thatā€™s fine with me) and has a matte finish which is ideal for my oily skin. After a full workday, my forehead was visibly oily and I needed a touch up and it did cling to some dry patches. Overall, it still looked decent. I doubt anyone, regardless of skin type, would get 24 hour wear out of this product, but realistically, whoā€™s wearing foundation that long?

Paula's Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant

I rarely repurchase skincare products. Why you ask? Well, the reason varies, but more often than not, I'm disappointed in the results or I'm avoiding FOMO when a trendy product makes its way onto my feed. The Paula's Choice BHA Liquid exfoliant, however, is a game changer. Yes, I'm confirming that the hype is real, but first, hereā€™s a little background on my skin. I have oily skin, deal with occasional breakouts (around that time of the month), and have some unevenness on my cheeks. Iā€™ve been using this product for months and have seen a significant improvement. The texture of my skin is smoother, my pores are smaller, and my complexion has been so much brighter. I started out using this product every other day and only at night, but have since worked up to daily use in the evening. Out of everything is the roundup of items TikTok made me buy, this product is the one to get!
